• BETTY THE SANDERS CUP DEFENDER Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, January 26.
Betty has been nominated to represent Canterbury tor the Sanders Cup contest. The nomination was made as ,a result of a direction issued to the secretary of the Christchurch Sailing and Power Boat Club by its president (Mr. 11. S. Hobday), his action being dictated by reasons of urgency. It was ascertained that, had not Betty or another boat from Canterbury been nominated, the province would have been ineligible to defeinl possession of the trophy. Tho committee of the <:lub was ><> have considered the question of representation at a committee meeting this evening, apparently in ignorance of the fact that any subsequent action would have been too late. The position regarding the time of entry, as a result of Which Mr. Hobday took action, is disclosed in the following telegram from the secretary ot the New Zealand Yachting Conference: —“Time for challenging already closed. Canterbury being defender does not challenge but must nominate boat not later than Thursday. Nomination must be by association, if any, otherwise by any recognised club representing the province.”
