YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES

At the morning call yesterday a sale of Union Bank shares at £l4 6s. Cd. (exdividend) was reported, and at the afternoon call a sale of per cent, stock (1938) at £97 was also reported. There was a linn demand for Government securities, with buyers of the 4J per cents, at £9O 17s. Cd., the 5J per cents, at £9B 155., and the 51 per cents, at £lOl ss. Debentures were firm. Wellington Gas were wanted at £99 10s„ Wellington Racing Club at £lOO 10s., and New Zealand Breweries, 10 per cent, bonds, at 225. Bank shares were steady. There were buyers of Commercial Bank at 295.; English, Scottish, and Australian Bank at £7 12s. Cd.; National Bank of New Zealand at £0 17s. Cd.; Bank of New Zealand “D” shares at 2Cs., and National Hauk of Australasia (£lO paid) at £l7 45., and £5 paid at £8 10s. Dalgety and Co.'s shares were wanted at £l3 155.; Goldsbrough Mort and Co. at 465. lid.; New Zealand Guarantee Corporation (preference) at 215., and New Zealand Jjoan and Mercantile (ordinary) at £93. Wellington Gas (ordinary) were wanted at 275. Cd., and Gisborne Gas at 9s. Cd. Meat shares were stecady. New Zealand Refrigerating (20s. paid) were in demand at 17s. 9d., and the 10s. paid at Bs. 7d., and Wellington Meat Export at Bs., a rise of 3d. Hutldart-Parker (ordinary) were firm at 495. Gd.; Union Steam at £1; and P. and O. deferred stock (rights) at £24 10s., a rise of 10s. There were buyers of Kaiapoi Woollen, (ordinary) at Bs. Gd., and Wellington Woollen (preference) at £0 3s, Cd. Westport Coal shares were' wanted at 31s. Cd., and Walpa Coal at ICs. 3d. There were buyers of Staples and Co. at 405., Tui Brewery at 405.; British Tobacco at 395, Od.; Burns. Philp, and Co. (South Sea) at 255. Gd.; New Zealand Paper Mills at ICs., Whltcombe and Tombs at CBs., and Wilson’s Cement nt 275. Cd. Yesterday’s buying and selling quotations were as under: —
