MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with the police cases in the Magistrates Court yesterday. A further remand until this afternoon was granted in tlie case of Francis John Douglas, a farmer, aged 21, who was .charged with being intoxicated while in'charge of a motor-car in Willis Street, on Saturday evening last. Andrew Alexander Clark, alias Hugh Grant, aged 20, who admitted obtaining £32 ' from Bertram Spooner by falsely representing that he was a flight-lieutenant at the Sockburn aerodrome, and that he had a gramophone for sale, was sentenced tb three months’ imprisonment with hard labour, the time to be served at the expiration of a term he is now undergoing. Accused who had a long list of previous convictions,. was remanded to appear at Christchurch to-morrow on a charge of making a document for £ll, knowing it to be false with the' intention that Dunstan and Dyer should act upon it as if it were genuine. Otto Vogel, a, fireman, aged 20, who admitted being a prohibited immigrant inasmuch as, being a German, he hpd landed in the Dominion without a permit, was ordered to be deported by the first boat leaving for Australia. For deserting from the s.s. Kersten Miles, which vessel has now left New Zealand, Vogel was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labour. Svdney Charles Leckie was remanded until February Bon a charge-of stealing an electric iron valued at £1 155., the property of Doris Kathleen Brady. Cyril Eugene Walsh, a motor-driver, aged 28, who desired to go before a jury instead of being dealt with summarily on a charge of stealing a wallet containing £l5, the property of George Ernest Beveridge, pleaded not guilty and was committed to the. Supreme Court for trial.
