HOROWHENUA SHOW
SUCCESSFUL FIRST DAY GOOD JERSEY AND PIG CLASSES ' ' LIST OF AWARDS Dominion Special Service. Levin, January 24. A warm sun favoured the first day of the Horowhenua Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s twenty-second annual show, which will be continued to-morrow, on the Le.vin racecourse. The outstanding features of the show are the excellent exhibits in the Jersey cattle and pig sections, and though the entries are slightly fewer than at last year’s show, it must be borne in mind that the past season was not a very good one. This year, too, the prolonged period of dry weather has adversely affected the fat lamb classes.
Mr. J. Liggins, jun., who judged the Friesians at this year’s show, stated l that, although the entries were not numerous, the quality was very good. The Ayrshire judge, Mr. J. Kyle, was also favourably impressed "with the exhibits in these classes. The quality , was good, the animals being typical of their breed. The champion cow, Webb Bros.’ Marion, was run very close by Mrs. Al. Colpman’s two-vear-old, Tarawa Marion. Mr. C. Cornford, who judged the fat lamb classes, stated that the lambs were not as good as in previous years, this being largely due to the drought. Mr. AV. P. Bickers, the pig judge, had a very difficult task to perform. The animals exhibited were equal to the best that were io be seen anywhere in the Dominion. All cattle, pig and sheep classes were judged to-day, .while to-morrow the remaining horse classes will be judged. CHAMPIONSHIPS The following championships , were awarded :— CATTLE.
