CONSTABLE’S MURDER
ARREST OF THREE MEN REPORTED
London, January 22.
Tiie week-end witnessed kinema-like police activities in London, which may be associated with the brutal murder of Police-Constable Gutteridge on September 27. The police intercepted a telephone message, which resulted in the most elaborate plans to surprise a party of motorists returning to a garage in Battersea. These were successful, and one man was taken to a police station and detained. It s reported that he attempted suicide in his cell. A search of the garage and qar revealed a service revolver loaded with dumdum bullets, and. a number of surgical instruments and drugs. The police went to a house at Tooting, where they discovered another service revolver fullv loaded, and on returning to the garage found a third. Some reports say that three men are now detained, the search continuing all night. It is recalled that the murderer of Constable Gutteridge is supposed to have stolen a doctor’s car, in which there jwere dgugs and instruments.
