INCREASED FIGURES ALL ROUND
, Magistrate’s Court returns for the year ending December ;31, 19’27, . were made available yesterday. There is an increase in all figures over those of the year ending December 31, 1926. i Eight thousand and fifty-six summons and arrest cards were filed, 7483 being in .respect to offences by men, and 573 for women. During the preceding year, 7229 cards w;ere filed, 6726 for men, and 503 for women. In regard to civil business, the figures are as follow, the totals for 1926 being given in parentheses. Plaints entered, 11,300 (9256) ; .total amount sued for, £208,101 (£154,464) ; cases tried, 6279 (5101) ; total amount claimed in cases tried, £117,696 (£9B, 525) ; total -amount recovered, £102,311 £83,488).
