STUDENTS’ CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT

SUMMER CONFERENCE. The annual conference of the New Zealand Student Christian Movement has just ended. Waitaki Boys’ High School was placed at the disposal of the N.Z. Student Christian Movement, and has proved one of the greatest factors in the success of the conference which, in its intervals of recreation, has been able to enjoy gardens, sea, swimming baths, and tenuis courts to the full. One hundred and seventy students from all New Zealand colleges attended the conference. The main study centred round the actions of Jesus as revealing His inner attitude and faith, and a number of pertinent questions arose in the group discussions which were held daily. The conference had also the privilege of listening to the Rev. J. R-. Blanchard, of Wellington, on "The Reality of and Search for a Personal God.” and to Mr. Bates, of Otago University, on “The Possibilities of Life on a Spiritual Basis. ’ Later, too. the Bishop of Christchurch gave a most suggestive and comprehensive talk on “God in History,” and Mr. W. Nash dealt with the problems of tho Pacific and their Christian solution,. “Fellowship Between Men and Women,” was the subject of a talk by Donald Grant, general secretary of the movement, and Dr. Holloway, of Otago, gave a lecture on “Science and Religion.” The Bishop of Christchurch, accompanied by Mrs. West Watson, staved throughout the conference, as did Mr. Blanchard. Evenings were devoted to such subjects ns the work of modern missions, and the conference was fortunate in the presence of Miss Gavin from India, and Dr. Haddow, from China.
