LABOURER FINED £10 FOR ASSAULT

Anker Jakob Karls Jensen, a labourer aged 37, was fined XlO, in default two months’ iSniprisonment, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of assaulting Avan Munro Murdock last Friday night. Murdock, who said he had refused to lend Jensen 55., was struck with a blow from Jensen’s fist and had his head split open necessitating three stitches being inserted at the public hospital, to which he was removed while unconscious. Accused in evidence asserted that Murdock had taken his (accused’s) girl from him. Sub-Inspector Lander said accused was at present on probation for assaulting an old man at Christchurch. “I think the charge lias been proved,” said Mr. Page, S.M., who convicted accused and fined him X'lO, in default two months’ imprisonment. Half the fine is to go to Murdock. Permission was granted to pay .the fine at the rate of dll per week.
