COMPETITION FOR BEST DESIGN In connection with , the International Philatelic lixliibition, which is being held in the Melbourne Town Hall, Oc-tober-November, 1928, a competition Is being conducted for the best design suitable for a Conimouwealtli postfge stamp. This competition is being organised with the approval of the Postal Department, and, in addition, the Post-master-General has agreed to the following suggestions:—(l) The PostmasterGeneral’s Department to make available the services of an officer to act as one of the judges of the designs submitted; (2) the Department to consider the winning design when the issue of a new series of stamps is contemplated; (3) the Department to grant a premium of £25 to the winning designer in the event of tlie acceptance of the design. The awards offered by the Exhibition Committee consist of gold, silver,- and bronze medals suitably inscribed. These are independent of any conditions such as that governing the departmental offer of £2s,'which it should be understood will onlv be pavable in the event of the design adjudged the winner under the exhibition’s rules being accepted also by the Department, with the right of use bv the latter. It is hoped by the committee that, in the event of a suitable design being submitted, It will be possible to make arrangements for its first issue at the time of the forthcoming exhibition. It is therefore felt that the Govei ninent prize of £25 will almost certainly be won by the winner of the competition.
