Information has reached here that three hundred White Russians, who are members of the Northern Army, and three foreign priests, whose nationality is unknown, are besieged at Wei-Hai-Wei-Fu, a small city in North Honan. In consequence of recent fighting, their plight is terrible. According to messengers who have arrived at Peking, the foodless city is desolated by the gunfire of the Southern artillery, which is demolishing the missionary children’s schools. One missionary perished in the flames. Only two water wells are producing drinkable water for supplying 15,000 residents. Prominent houses are the daily target for gunfire. COMMAND OF NATIONALIST FORCES Shanghai, January 4. General Chiang-Kai-shek has left for Nanking to take over the command of the Nationalist forces and supervise military activities in the North, with a view to cementing the disrupted ranks.

The Rev. Forbes Tocher, who, at considerable personal risk, acted as intermediary in the negotiations for the release of Captain Lawlor from Chinese pirates on the Yangtse River, has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Mr. Tocher, who is. a missionary of the Church of .Scotland, served in the war and gained the Military Cross.—British Official Wireless.
