COMMONWEALTH LINE
CONDITIONS OF SALE
MAY DEBAR POSSIBLE TENDERERS
By Telegbaph.—Pbess association. CoPYRIGH*.
London, January 3.
The conditions in the tenders which are being invited for the purchase of the Commonwealth Line include a provision that tenderers must provide a satisfactory guarantee that they will maintain the vessels on the British Register, and that they will conduct a service for ten years equal to that given at present, making at least eighteen round voyages a year. Preference will be given to offers containing proposals for safeguarding Australian exporters and importers in regard to freight rates. Shipping circles consider that insistence on the maintenance of a service for ten years may debar possible tenderers, as they would not be likely to bind themselves down to such a lengthy period in order to maintain a service \which may result in loss.
