DIVE TO DEATH

TRAGEDY IN ENGLISH THEATRE Loudon, December 30. The dive of a trapeze artist into the stalls of a theatre at Hillingborough thrilled the audience, though thev were unaware that it was really a dive to death. The artist, Greenhalge, dressed as an ape, had been performing the feat for thirty years, but on this occasion he jumped before his ankle was properly secured to the trapeze and he crashed headlong into the lap of a woman, who was removed to the hospital with a broken leg. Greenhalge died iu a few minutes, but the band struck up a gay march so that the audience did not realise the tragedy. Greenlialge’s wife witnessed the accident troni behind the scenes and fainted. Blondin, the tightrope-walker, once had a similar accident. He fell into a woman’s lap in the stalls and broke her legs, but was not hurt himself.
