STEAM-ROLLER HOLDS UP CITY TRAFFIC

The vagaries of a steam roller caused some inconvenience to passengers on trams bound for the southern suburbs at noon yesterday. All car a passing along the Kent Terrace sectiou, other than those passing through the Hataitai tunnel were diverted to the Cuba Street-Vivian Street route. Those of the passengers who had intended to alight at Courtenay Place were compelled to walk from the corner of Cuba and Manners Streets. The reason for this procedure was that a steam roller had broken down when crossing the tram line, near the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church and macle it impossible for cars to pass. After alxmt a quarter of an hour’s delay the roller was moved and the service continued as usual.
