LIQUOR IN NO-LICENSE DISTRICT
FAILURE TO INFORM Masterton, October 14. Eight charges of selling liquor for delivery into the no-license district of Masterton and failing to forward immediately copies of the orders to the local courthouse were preferred against Frederick George Bourke, licensee of the Rutland Hotel, Pahiatua, at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Mr. K. Siddells, who appeared for defendant, entered a plea of guilty. He said that for the last seven years his client had sent the orders to the court in batches No complaint had been made that this was irregular, and defendant had been under the mipressjon that it was not necessary for the orders to be forwarded immediately liter the sale. His offence lay only 'n his having been neglectful, as, had ’ e wished to evade the law, he ould have destroyed the orders and >.ot tent them at all. The Magistrate said the offence was regarded by the Act as .ertois, du! he was satisfied that in this cast defendant’s failure to forward the orders as required was due merely to carelessness. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay £1 aud costs 10s. on each charge (a total of £l2). J. Curran, licensee of the Albion Hotel, Shannon, was charged similarly on six counts. Defendant, who did not appear, was fined £1 aud costs It's, on each charge.
