SOUTH ISLAND ROADS

Motorists contemplating touring in the South Island will be interested in the following remarks by Mr. r W. Gresham in the "Southland limes .—- “After an absence of seven years I have just motored down from Christchurch. The roads were good from Christchurch to Palmerston, bad from Palmerston to Waitati, bad again from Dunedin to Pukerau, and really good from the time we entered Southland County until we reached Invercargill. As an old Sonthlander I was proud of the Southland roads. I have been through the western district and other parts, and the roads are excellent everywhere. It is a pleasure to drive over thenij and Southland motorists are indeed fortunate. It is a pleasure to be able to congratulate the Southland County Council and its engineer and staff on the condition of their roads, which compare more than favourably with any known' to me. Touring motorists will find themselves amply compensated for the unpleasantness of the bad main road from Dunedin to Pukerau for the joy and satisfaction of travelling smoothly over .first-class, well-kept roads wherever they go bl Southland.”
