FOR THE CHILDREN
TURAKINA HEALTH CAMP HOSPITAL‘BOARD GIVES. SUPPORT Palmerston North, October 13. Ah appeal from the Wanganui Education Board, for assistance in its task of organising’ an annual camp at Turakina for the benefit of children suffering from malnutrition, was received at a meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board to-day. The Education Board pointed out that the only annual grant received was from the Department of Public Health, which gave assistance to the extent of £lOO. The remainder of the funds necessary were raised by voluntary contributions. To hold a camp for five weeks, for 100 to 200 children', cost about £3OO. The board further stated that the great majority of those children who had attended these camps had derived considerable benefit from the special treatment given them. A careful watch was kept upon them by a skilled medical officer. The value of the camps was Recognised by the Health Department, and it was believed that when finances permitted the Department would take over the whole responsibility of conducting the camps. The wprk ol the Education Board in this direction met with_ the sympathy of members of the Hospital Board, and it was decided to donate the sum of £25 towards the cost of organising this lyear’s camp.
