Chiefly with the idea of. dispensing the terrors of an approaching annual examination, an Auckland mother has taken her son’s place in the office for a few weeks while he stays at home to “swat” (savs the “Star”). Although the practice of “cramming’ does not appeal to her, she considers that a little extra time for the mastery of the various “isms" connected with, the higher pursuit of knowledge is sufficiently important to outweigh an objection oT two on principle, and, as the back porch, with a handy octagonal table, is' a most attractive spot tor absorbing abstract theories, and a liberal helpin'’ of warm sunshine, the idea is one with a decided appeal. Strange spots are chosen bv student hopefuls in suburban Auckland when they make their final dash for the examination goal, and the delightful days of October have a decided knack of encouraging the habit of study in the open air.
