SCOUT NOTES

(By “Itover.") The Scout concert at the Town Hall last week proved a success in every way. The attendance of the public was very encouraging. Scouts sincerely tnaiiK Messrs. Elston, Bryant, Tucker, Brokenshire, Doherty, Stanley Warwick, and Miss Windsor, the quartet party, Misses Coe. Church, ail'd Hall, and Mr. J. Knowsley's pupils. The Scout items, trumpets and drums, recitations by Scout Aitken, Scout choruses, by Karori Troop, physical drill by Wellesley College hakas bv St. Augustine, living statuary by Island Bay, and the fine rope spinning by Rovers Perry and Jantke, gave a Scout tone to the evening. Mr. Harold Whittle acted as accompanist. Commissioners Jackson and Vosseler, with Mr. Halford, proved able managers. During the interval His Excellency the GovernorGeneral. natron-in-chief, New Zealand Scouts, presented the Corawell Scout badge to Troop-Leader Meachen, later expressing his enjoyment of the programme. and hia pleasure at being able to be present. Last Saturday night a social was held at the “den." The Rovers desire to thank the Lyceum Club for their kindness in allowing the use of their roo-ips. Numerous games were played by young and old. During the • evening Commissioner. Sir Alfred Robin, spoke a few words of welcome to Rovermaster C. Meachen, after which Rovermaster Meachen replied with a short outline of Ins trip abroad. September3o, 1926, passed with 17« of all grades, and this boptember shows the total to be 2241, comprising 29 cub packs, three Sea facout troous. one Rover company, and 50 Scout troops. ~ ~ , Those desirous of attending the Akela camp this month should communicate with District-Cubmaster Green or Jantko. Both are available on the telephone. In trlorious weather a parade of Lower Hutt and Petone troops took place at Petono last Sunday. Headed by the Hutt and Petono bands, tho troops marched through Jackson Street, en route to the churches, and the sight of seine two hundred and twenty cubs. Scouts, and officers marching together to the worship of God was nothing short of inspiring. Petone Scouts tender thanks to Hutt brothers for their presence. The third Lower Hutt troop was started at the beginning of August this year, wittf a roll number of nineteen Scouts and two officers. This number has increased to twenty-four Scouts and three officers. On August 22 they held their first investiture, . which, was conducted by Scoutmaster McKenzie, there being nianv interested parents and friends present. Some of the First Lower Hutt Troop Scouts have transferred to this troop, to help it along. During tho last holidays a tramp to WaimV and a cycle trin to Akatarawa were well attended. Tho patrol competitions are being evenly contested. This troop meets on Monday nights at 7 p.m., iu the Methodist Sunday school. The Y.M.O.A. No. 1 Troop is making good progress under the new patrol system. Tho troop committee will meet to-night at 8. Any Scout who still has tickets from the Y.M.C.A. concert and grand concert are asked to rcturu them urgently to Mr. Doukiu. Although little has been heard from the Kelburn wolf cub pack for some time, they arc still making steady progress. On October 1 they held a pound afternoon as a farewell to Sixers Tinney and Miller, who are “going up” to the troop. A fine afternoon was spent playing games and having a jolly time. Sixer Tinney was presented with a sheatn knife as a reward for being the first in the pack to gain the second star. Sixer Wakelin has been promoted to senior sixer, and lie was given his gold braid to make his new stripes. . Trinity Troop and pack will hold their third “going mi” ceremony on October 18. and will be glad to welcome auy visiting seputers. Cambridge Troop committee held their monthly mceiing on Friday last. Tho troop is making steady progress. Scoutmaster Grouo, of Y.M.O.A. No. 2, in as ’ sisting, has made himself at home. This should be a great help to Scoutmaster G. Pearce. The parade held last Sunday week was attended by District Scoutmaster Donkin and Scouts from the Y.M.O.A. troops. The weekly parade was a busy one, several junior Scouts arc working hard for the badge honours. Hie Christmas camp is now being discussed amongst tho troys. There was a good muster of Scouts and officers of the Miramar Ffoop at a church parade last Sunday, lho following Scouts gained badges during tho week Patrol-leader Berry, his King s Scout, missioner’s. gardener; Scout hlls-
