.WAIRARAPA BOARD.
Carterton, October 11.
The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Power Board was held to-day, Mr. J. W. Kershaw occupying the chair. The resident engineer (Mr. H. B. Keenan) reported that the half-yearly installations were as follow :—Mastertoll: Estimates accepted, 1385; connected to mains, 1362; Carterton, 668, 665; Greytown, 228, 227; Featherston, 407, 403; Martinborough, 0, 0. The weekly inspections carried out at Waingawa revealed that with the exception of a few necessary adjustments, everything was working satisfactorily. Among rhe recommendations by the Finance Committee adopted were the following:—(1) That current be sold at night between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for motive power at three-farth-ings per unit, providing the consumer instate an approved time switch which will be controlled by the board; (2) that between the' hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. current be sold for use in an airing cupboard (a) at the same flat rate as for water heating at night, (b) at seveneighths of a penny per unit? providing the heating element is controlled by an approved time switch to be supplied by the consumer. The chairman, secretary-manager, and engineer were appointed to represent the board at a conference to be held in Wellington on October 14 in connection with the claims lodged for an award for linesmen.
“One gratifying feature of the financial statement is that show-room sales are steadily increasing,” said Mr. T. V. Moore, “and this shows that the board was wise in instituting the show-rooms for the purpose of protecting customers from outsiders who were dealing iu those goods.”
