Legion of Frontiersmen. Invitation holders are reminded of the Wellington squadron’s dance to be held in the Mokoia Hall, Kent Terrace, to-night. As to-dav is the second anniversary of the meeting held to reorganise the Wellington troop, the dance to-nicht will fittingly commemorate the effort. One of the many attractions at the function will be an eccentric dance exhibition by two wellknown city amateurs.

Concert At Ohlro Home. “To amuse others is to amuse yourselves” seems to be the slogan of the students of the Training College who again favoured the inmates of the Oliiro Home on Saturday last W’ith one of their frequent visits, which are always most welcome bv the inmates, as they by their cheerful and happy ways take an atmosphere of good-will and feeling to all. The entertainment they provided was not a long one, but it was very bright, and during supper time th<w did' their utmost to cheer their audience. The programme was as follows:— Chorus, the students; recitation, Miss Sutherland; song, Miss Brereton; piano duct, Miss Nolan and Mr. Trott; song and chorus, Miss Tregathy and chorus; violin solo, Mr. South; sone, Miss Lord; recitation, Miss Sutherland; song, Mr. Paul; song, Miss Laurenson; final chorus and “Annie Laurie” and “Auld Lang Syne.” The master and matron and several friends were present, as 'veil as the members of the staff. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered to (he entertainers.

RED CROSS PEACE WORK MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the peace time division, Wellington branch British Red Cross Society, uas held at Red Cross headquarters, Dixon Street, on Friday last. There were present: Lady Rhodes, Mesdames C. H. Chapman, S. Myers, J. Pow, E. Wright, F. T. Clarke, F. W. Kemp, Miss Hynes, and Sister Lewis; Mr. C. 11. Chapman (chairman), Hon. Dr. W. E. Collins, Messrs. A. Martin, F. Hurley, and M. S. Galloway (seere tary). Au apology was received from Miss T. Lissingtou. The chairman referred to the work which had been done at .Mount Cook School in serving meals for the little ones during the winter mouths. Letters of appreciation had been received from the Education Board, School Committee, headmaster, and headmistress. The chairman desired to thank the Ladies’ Auxiliary for the splendid manner in which they had carried out this dutv.

Dlr. H. D. Grocott, bon. secretary. Red Cross, Pahiatua, wrote remitting an amount resulting from a recent appeal. The Pahiatua people also sent in a large aniouut of useful warm clotliiug. The director of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind wrote, thanking the ladies for the service at the Winter Show in disposing of baskets manufactured by the blind, which had resulted in £3O being handed over to the insti tutc. A letter was received from the hon. secretary, Commercial Travellers’ Choir, acceding to a request for a concert in aid of the blind to oe held at Khandallah in November. The Hutt Valley Dramatic and Operatic Soeietv tvrote, stating that it would have much pleasure in holding a benefit concert at a later date. The matron of the Otaki Sanatorium requested a supply of reading matter, and stated that gramophone records, new or second-hand, would be most acceptable. It was hoped that the public would, perhaps, forward records to the society for the sanatorium. The director of the Blind Institute wrote intimating that the Australasian Conference for the Blind bad been postponed, and he would likely visit Wellington in November, as in past years, and meet blind cases. It was resolved that steps be taken td> arrange a gathering for the local civilian blind, at which opportunity would be give-n the director to meet them- It was resolved to thank Messrs. G. J. Hicks and Company for the fine collection of new books sent in. Comprehensive reports were submitted by the Red Cross nurse and secretary, Junior Red Cross Loth these indicated a healthy development in the work. The Ladies’ Auxiliary, under Mrs. Wright, reported that, in addition, 376 garments, 57 boots and shoes, had been distributed during the month among necessitous cases. The committee wished to record its thanks to those people who had generously donated gifts of clothing, reading matter, etc., during the month. Sister Lewis reported that arrangements were well in hand for the students’ dance, which promised to be a most successful function. . Thanks were expressed to Mrs. Fairbairn for her kindness in promoting n bridge afternoon and handing the proceeds Over for Red Cross purposes. Mrs. A. J. Meredith, Devon Street, had intimated that she was arranging a dance on behalf of the Red Cross Society, to take place at her residence at the end of the month. Ju thanking Mrs. Meredith for her kind offer, the committee resolved to co-operate in every wav possible. The following were unanimously elected to the committee: Mesdames J. C. Rolleston, D. M. 1-airbairu, Moore, Hendry, and Miss Bown.

Wedding at Johnsonville. The wedding was solemnised, at St Columbia’s Church, Johnsonville, on September 28, by the Rev. A. Stevenson, of Jean Diary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. McFarlane, of Johnsonville, to Cecil John, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Harris, of Porirua. I lie bride entered the church on the anti of her brother, Dlr. G. DlcFarlane, of Auckland, and was in a gown of ivorv georgette in Victorian style, with diamante trimming. Her veil was attached to her head-dress with rows of orange blossom, and. fell to th* ground, forming a train. A bouquet of pink flowers' completed Her toilette. The. bridesmaids were Amy and DJargaret Harris, sisters of the bridegroom, who wore green and heliotrope georgette respectively, with silver head-bands and bouquets to tone with their frocks. Joy McFarlane, niece of the bride, was flower girl, nt a frock of heliotrope georgette . with touches of green, and she carried a basket of flowers to match. Dlr. J. Butcher was a capable best man, mid Dlr. C. Sinclair was groomsman. The church had been decorated by Dlrs. Markle, and Dlr. Isatt was at the organ. A reception was afterwards hele at the Parish Hall, where the guests, numbering about 150. were receive'! and entertained by Dlrs. W. r. DieFarlane, who wore a frock of mulberry charmaline, with crinoline hat to match, mid carried a posy of cream primroses- The mother of the bridegroom wore a frock of black crepe de chine and lace, with hat to match.

Women's Baptist Union. The annual meeting of the Baptist Women’s Dlissionary Union was held at Vivian Street Baptist Church yesterday. The gathering opened at 10 a.w. with a devotional meeting conducted by Dlrs. Fear At 10.30 the business session opened, presided over by Mrs. F. E. Harry, Dominion president, who was supported by all the district vice-presi-dents. Dlrs. R. S. Gray welcomed all the delegates, also Dliss Beckitigsale and Dliss Cowles, who are home on furlough, and Dliss Ogilvie, an outgoing missionary. Mrs. F. W. Gaze replied on behalf of the delegates, and Miss Cowles on behalf of the missionaries. The secretary’s report showed that there were now 68 branches of the union, 61 senior and -I junior, with a total membership of 1479. The financial report bv the treasurer, Mrs. Collins, showed that a total of £1755 7s. -Id. had been during the year, an increase of £lB os. 7d. over last year. Uu> ®1 arh'on of office# result as
