LETTERS IN BRIEF
“The remarks of the Minister of Health at Palmerston North are,” writes “Mother,” “hard to understand. Does he ’infer that all those that have large families are poor, illiterate fools that love hard work and responsibility ? . . . How do we know that we will get quality by curtailing numbers? To do away with our children for the sake of expensive clothes, or flash homes, is puny. Besides, we have poor souls in prison here for helping mothers to curtail their families.”
“Payable Oil” writes:—“lt is pleasing to find that ‘Oil Rock’ is so soundminded as to readily make the amende honourable. The meaning of the word ‘throughout,’ hpwever, clearly indicates ‘from top to bottom,’ and not ‘below’— the extreme depth mention in the quotation: ‘. . . underlain by tertiary sediments almost wholly marine, with a total thickness probably exceeding 8000 feet . . . potentially oil bearing throughout.’ ”
