SHANNON NOTES
The annual meeting of the Mangs-’ ore Tennis Club was held last week, when the president (Mr. A. Blackwood) presided over a large attendance of members. In his report the president said that the season had been a most successful one. The membership last season constituted a record for the club, there being 27 men and 17 ladies. The committee had at times found difficulty in arranging games for all, but’ the good-fellowship shown on the courts had helped considerably to overcome that difficulty. Miss A. Gagliardi and Mr. W. King were at the head' of their respective ladders at the end of the season, while the following trophies had been won: —President’s, Mr. J. Burgis; Gryll’s, Miss A. Gagliardi; King’s, Mr. and Mrs. Ostler; Andrew’s, Mrs. Gregory: Murray’s, Mrs. Gregory; Goldsmith’s, Mr. A. Breen. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £l5- Bs. 4d. Fifteen new members were elected, and the following officers elected for the ensuing year President, Mr. A.Blackwood; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. 'V. Johnston and I. R- Robertson; captain, Mr. Burgis; secretary, Mr K. Henry; committee, Messrs. E. James and H. Symons. The Shannon Bowling Club’s cribbagc tournev was brought to a close on Thursday night, when there was a large attendance: The winners for the evening were Mrs. Hyde and Mr. B. Merwood. The points prizes for the season were won by Mr. Butler and Mr. C. Hausman. The section finals for . the 1927 Mangaore ping-pong championships are to be played this week. In. section A, Mr. D. Jamieson leads with five wins; and in section. B, Mr. B. Chrystall also has five wins. As there are" three in each section with four wins, an exciting contest may be expected. The winners for the Women’s Institute euchre partv this week were Mrs. Hyde anil Mr. C. Pritchard, while a special prize donated by Mr. F. Buckman, for lady players, was won by, Mrs. Hvde. . At the close of business on Saturday evening the management and staff of Messrs. W. H. Gunning, Ltd. of Shannon, met to say farewell to Mr. R. Terry, sen., who is leaving the district to undertake farm work in the Wairarapa district. Mr.. Terry has been with the firm for .sixteen years. He was made the recipient of a present, and was extended all good wishes for the future. . The marriage of Irene, eldest daughter- of Mr. and Mrs. E. Coakley of Shannon, to Frank, second son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Jamieson, also of Shannon was celebrated at the yen--Bede’s Church on Wednesday, evening. Miss Kitty. Williams, of Tokomaru, 'presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of ivory crepe de dime beaded with crystal, and an embroidered net veil, held in place by a coronet of pearls and orange blossom. sue carried a bouquet of cream roses, white Stock, pale pink cyclamen, and maidenhair ferh. The . bride was a - tended bv her sister, Miss D Coakley, and bv Miss M. Jamieson, .sister of the bridegroom. The train-bearers were little Miss Lloryian Lanshear and Master Kenneth Coakley.
