A number of small farmers in North Otago are this season devoting themselves to pig-raising (states the “Times”). Ono farmer at Totara is going into the business on a fairly large scare. He has established a piggery on modern lines, with a number of wire-netted enclosures, ■and intends growing artichokes, potatoes, etc., in order to provide feed. He has selected the long-snouted Tamworth breed, and has already some good litters. One man in the district, who sent a truck load of pigs to Dunedin recently netted £lOO. As pigs breed twice a year, the product of a single sow may bo made to pay the rent. Pigs also do good service on land that is infested with couch grass. The death has occurred at Christchurch of Mr. William J. M. Hopkins, aged 62, well known in business and sporting circles, and a member of the New Zealand Trotting Association for manv years, states a Press Association telegram. The annual bazaar of St. Anne's Church, Northland, will be opened to-morrow at 2.30 p.m.. by Mrs. G. A. Troup, in the church schoolroom. Admission will be free both in the afternoon and at night. WOODS’ GREAT PEPPERMINT GUREcjpids, never fail*.
