FIRE AT ROSENEATH
DWELLING GUTTED. A six-roomed house, No. 10 Roseneath Terrace (owned bv Mrs. Mooney, No. 101 Onepu Road, Lyall Bay)-, was completely gutted by fire shortly -before midnight last night. The occupants were Mrs. Ellen Ward, Mr. and Mrs.' R. Merryweather, and Miss May Upton. ' They had retired when the sound of a fire aroused them, and they had barely time to escape in their night attire and a few clothes which they hastily snatched up. The fire brigade answered promptly to the alarm, but were able only to confine the blaze to tne house and prevent it spreading. The insurance on the dwelling was not ascertainable last night. Of the occupants, only Mrs. Ward had ker furniture insured. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery. COUNTRY HOUSE BURNEDBy Telegraph.—PnEss association.---Taumarunul, October 10. A five-roomed house and outbuildings on a farm at Taringamotu, owned by Mr. G. A. Stanton, and occupied by Mr. W. Carter, was destroyed by fire on Saturdav night. A defective chimney was the cause. The insurances wer» X 660 on the house and £l5O on the furniture. The need for protection against fire loss is obvious.
