RUGBY FOOTBALL
MAORIS OFFENDED EXCLUSION FROM' ALL BLACKS Dominion Special Service. Auckland, October 7. The exclusion of Maoris from the All Black team for South Africa was discussed by the To Akar.ana Maori Association. which carried the following resolution: “This association regrets that in order to defer to South African opinion the. New Zealand Rugbv Union has decided to ignore Maori manhood in the selection of a New Zealand representative team, and feels that this decision is a slur on the dignity and manhood of the Maori. It would have been more fitting for the union to have declined to forward n team not truly representative of. New Zealand as.a united Maori-European people.” The above resolution will be forwarded to the union.
Some of the members strongly commented on the matter. The Maoris had done much to stiffen up football in New Zealand, it was pointed out, and some of the finest footballers the world had over seen were Maoris. Perhaps the South Africans were aware of these facts. The Rugbv Union seemed Io forget flic nrcnjt work Hie Maoris had done In assisting to make the international football records of New Zealand.
