SHANNON NOTES
A meeting of the committee of the Shannon Bowling Club was held on Wednesday, when matters in connection with the grounds were discussed at length. It was decided to get ready for the opening day, which was fixed for October 22, by a series of working bees, in order that the work might be done without undue strain on the finances of the chib. A hearty vote, of thanks was accorded Messrs. Gunning and E. Butt for their work on the green, and to Mr. A. White for erecting more lotkers in the pavilion. Arrangements were made for the usual Labour Day tourney, and for a Yankee pairs tourney early in the season. Messrs. Clayton, Gagliardi and Knowles were appointed a committee to take charge of gala days and of all night play for trophies. A number of local bowlers journeyed to Levin on Wednesday, where they spent a most enjoyable time. The winners at, the last cribbage evening organised by the Bowling Club were Mrs. Terry, sen., and Mrs. J. Richardson. The Rev. R. Williamson is at present attending the Presbyterian Ministers’ Summer School, which is being held this year in Palmerston North. The Mayoress (Mrs. E Butt) is away visiting friends for a few weeks. While playing football at.Whangarei on Saturday, Mr. E. J. Aim, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Aim, of Shannon, broke his leg, but he is now making satisfactory progress. Mrs R. Waring-Taylor and her family are spending a few weeks’ holiday at the seaside.
