A SUCCESSFUL SEASON At the annual meeting of the Victoria. University Athletic Club the report submitted slated that the past season was perhaps the most successful that the clue had seen. Tho club was stronger now than it hud ever been, and the committee hoped that the coming season would see it stronger still. Priestly lowered tho mile record, completing the course m 4mm. zo 2-ssec. Sceats showed his true form in the high jump, with a magnificent leap of sft. Ilin. In open competition .the club did remarkably well. We gained second place to tho Wellington Club m the McVillv Shield competition, and we also gained second place in the Dewar Shield competition. In relay lacing, tne club regained - tho laurels it lost tne previous season. Tho Oates Baton for tho most points in these events over the whole season was won from Wellington Club after many exciting contests by the narrow margin of one point. Ihe club has held this trophy for three out of the four years Of its existence. The Heenan Baton for the mile relay was also won from the Wellington Club, after an entertaining triagular encouter with that and the Canterbury Club. The following blazer awards were made this year: u. B. itllan, E. B. Smith. A, D. Priestly. J. ». Mackav. W. G. Kalanghcr. G. J. Sceats, F IV. 0. Jones. E. K, Eastwood, A. Barker, and F. S. Hill. The thanks of the club are due to tho small hand who coached and trained members during the season, and also to all others who assisted in various ways to make the club successfin. In this connection the services of Mr. b. V. Dunbar were particularly mentioned. Mr. Dunbar has now kindly presented to th<r clnb a handsome cup for the member who during the season gains the greatest number of points in all competitions held under tho Wellington Centre’s jurisdiction.”
