FOXTON NOTES

At the last meeting of the Wanganui Education Board a suggestion was made that Moutoa School be done away with and the children conveyed daily to the Foxton School, a distance of about eight miles. As a result a protest meeting was held at Moutoa on Monday uight, which was presided over by Mr. Gregory and attended by about forty householders. A motion was carried by a three to one majority that the school be kept open. Whitebait lias been fairly scarce in the Manawatu River this, season. The biggest “run” of whitebait experienced in' the Manawatu River this season took place on Monday The whitebait were hard to net nevertheless, aud the bigest haul was 751 b for the day Buyers were offering 2s 6d. per lb.

The death occurred at Alotuiti Pa, Foxton, on Saturday, of a well-known local Native, Paora Taharuku, aged 72 years The late Mr Taharuku had for many years been a resident of the pa. He leaves a widow The interment took place on Wednesday at the Motuiti cemetery An adopted son of the late Mr Taharuku met with a fatal accident at Himatangi a few weeks ago when he was crushed under a flax dray A meeting of the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club was held ou Alonday, presided over by Mr H Hutchins (chairman' It was decided that the Social Committee hand ovet any funds in hand in order that the club might go ahead with the preparation of a racing track at Victoria Park.
