JERSEY SHOW AND SALE

QUALITY OFFERING AND GOOD PRICES The national Jersey show and sale is now held annually at the Ulaudelands A. and P. showgrounds, Hamilton, by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd.. in conjunction with Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd. They report as under:— The fifth annual salo was held on beptember 21 and 22, before a very large and representative attendance of buyers. The object of tho sale is to provide a channel through which breeders from ' all parts of tho Dominion may offer their selected stud bulls. The catalogue this year was comprised of the choicest bulls reared by 48 prominent breeders, representing Auckland. Waikato, Manawatu, and Taranaki districts. The sale -is not confined solely to bulls, and some very choice females came forward. Every animal with the exception of an imported sire, was sold absolutely without reserve. The offering of bulls was considered the finest yet submitted in the Dominion, and the large classes which came before the judge, Mr. A. E. Misscn, have had few equals at any of the provincial shows. The class for two-ycar-old bulls was won by Mr. F. J. B. Ryburn, with Bill Owlet; second prize went to Messrs. A. Moreland and Sons' two-year-old bull Becchlands Prince Charlie; and third to Mr. H. Salwny’s New Plymouth Metropolitan Show reserve champion bull Fury’s Noble Boy. Well over fifty bulls came out for the yearling class, and choice fell upon Mr. 0. G. 0. Dermer's Waipiko Crown Prince. Mr. J. Mclvor was second witlf Ivy's Beauty, and Mr. (1. A. Mills took third place with Burn Croft Agrion. Mr. W. Hobbs took first and second prizes in tho two-year-old heifer class, and Mr. J. Mclvor the same honours with yearling heifers. Mr. J. F. B. Ryburn’s bull Bill Owlet was made the grand champion animal of the show. Mr. Ryburn provided the grand champion last year in Sungold. a sire which is now doing well in Taranaki, and censeuuently becomes the owner of the handsome cup donated by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. One hundred and seventy-five lots were catalogued, but some did not conic forward. Generally the cattle were in very good order, but there were several lots below the standard aimed at by the promoters. Animals in good condition met with a ready sale, and some very good prices were realised. One hundred and twenty-six one and two-year-old bulls sold for the good average price of £37 10s.; 57 two-yeur-old bulls averaged £4B 10s.; and 69 yearlings £2B 10s. Fifty of tho choicest bulls in proper salo condition made the average of £6l 7s. 6d. Six lots sold for over 100 guineas. The tep price of 145 guineas was paid by Mr. R. 11. Robertson, Hamilton, for tho yearling bull Romani Heather’s Willad, ol'ered on account of Mrs. G. M. Harris, Marototo. This splendid young sire was linebred to Eminent’s Fontaine (imp.), his dam being intensely bred to the champion butterfat bull Waipiko Masterpiece. One hundred and forty guineas was paid by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., on behalf of Mr. W. B. North, Durban, South Africa, for the two-year-old buU Ex-Officio, a son of the world’s champion twice-a-day milked cow Vivandiere C. 10361 b. fat. This bull was sold an account of Messrs. A. Christie and Co.. Tanokaha. The same vendors sold the two-year-old bull High Born, a son of the champion Idalia (full sister to Vivandiere) to Messrs. G. R. and H. Hutchinsou, for 115 guineas. Beechlands Prince Charlie was considered one of the outstanding bulls in the catalogue. He was sired by Briar’s General Twylish, and is from Flox. This bull was offered on account of Messrs. A. Moreland and Sons, and was purchased by Mr. W. T. Luxton, Puketana, for 125 guineas. Mr. B. K. Simons’ breeding sire Idalia’s Royalty was secured by Mr. W. IL Miers for 100 guineas.
