AFTER MAKO SHARK

GOOD DAY’S SPORT Dominion Special Service. Auckland, October 3. Mr. Lionel Wrathall, a member of the Mangonui Swordfish Club, took advantage of the prevailing splendid weather at Mangonui yesterday, and went on a fishing . expedition in a launch to Berghan’s Head, within twenty minutes of the township, and was rewarded with a perfect day’s sport. He hooked a mako shark weighing 2371 b., which proved a very lively. fish to handle, and it was an hour and forty-five minutes before he secured it. Good fighters are often found late in the season. Commercial fishermen secured a very large mako close to Berghan’s Head a few days ago on a hand line. Several other launch owners, who yesterday were engaged in hapuka fishing, report that makos are present. Several large hapuka were taken by makos when in sight of the fishermen.
