Crops of autumn-sown wheat are looking wonderfully well in tho Timaru district, and, given fair conditions, the yield should be abundant (reports an exchange). Timaru is a big grower of wheat, favouring this cereal much more than oats. Tho autumn sowing was done when tho ground was reasonably dry, conditions being favourable for germination before tho intense cold and wet of winter. A eurvey of the district gives the impression that the spring sowing will be less than usual —the quantity in tho autumn was good—the period of bad weather interfering with sowing operations. Tho lambing was good, although in tho more hilly portions, feed has been scarce, aud many of tho owes have suffered. However, the prune is now coming away well. There is plenty «f optimism in the district, with the prospect of a good fattening season, and an abundant yield of grain. The idea that lamb and wool prices will be firm is held strongly.
