REVOLUTIONARY PLOT
TO ASSASSINATE KING AND PREMIER OF SPAIN DIRECTORATE DENOUNCED RESTORATION OF OLD REGIME URGED By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. .(Rec. October 2, 11.50 p.m.) Madrid, October 2. The Spanish police have discovered a widespread revolutionary plot and conspiracy to assassinate King Alfonso and General De Rivera. It is stated that a hundred bombs have been found. The arrests include the Republican leaders, Marcelino, Domingo, Baldomero, and De Zaza. A prominent general addressed a representation to King Alfonso, urging the restoration of the old regime, and declaring that as the Moroccan problem, which constituted the raison d’etre of the Directorate, no longer exists, there was no object in retaining the Dictatorship. Great excitement was caused by the publication of a leaflet by the Conservative ex-Premier, Sanchez Guerra, denouncing King Alfonso for having assisted in setting up a despotism, which past generations had fought to overthrow. Sanchez has left Spain, and other prominent men are following his example.
