DARING ROBBERIES

VALUABLE JEWELLERY LOST Melbourne, October 1. Two daring robberies are reported. In the first case a young woman drew over £‘2oo from a city bank for wages for her firm at Richmond, and placed the monev in an attache case. When she was twenty yards from the factory’ two men attacked her One snatc.ied the case and the other threw her on the ground The robbers then dashed oft at a furious, speed in a motor-car, and were pursued by a traveller, who .orced the robbers' car to crash into a fire alarm pillar, but owing to a war injury was unable to pursue them further. Tn the second case, at a busy hour, a man smashed a jeweller’s window in the city and grabbed a tray of jewels valued'at £lOOO. He, however, was held by a man till the police arrested him. During the struggle the jewellery, consisting chieflv of rings, was scattered about the ground, and £GOO worth is still missing. It is believed to have been stolen by the crowd.
