Concentration and a fair knowledge of the Picture Screen stars are necessary to solve this puzzle. There is only one correct solution; no alternatives. First, think of some of your Screen Star favourites. Concealed in the large square are the names of a number of popular stars. The names can be traced out only by passing from one letter square to the next adjoining in any direction. See examples, Mary Pickford, Hoot Gibson. In tracing a star (Christian name and surname) it is not permissible to jump a square, or to use the same letter twice. Any letter, however, may be used more than once in the tracing of different names. Only a proportion of the 196 letters arc used in the names concealed in the puzzle. Including the two marked, how many screen stars can you find? The prizes as above will be paid to competitors who send the best solutions. Three points will be allowed for each correct name. For any incorrect name included, i competitor will be penalised five points. This eliminates guessing. As it is extremely unlikely that any competitor will send an absolutely correct solution, the prizes will be awarded to those who obtain the highest points. £l5 will be added to the prize money if two or more competitors succeed in gaining full points. In the event of a tie, or ties, the prize money will be divided. Awards of adjudicators must be accepted as final. Competitors should keep a copy of solution sent, in order to compare with published results. TO SEND SOLUTION. Write names of Screen Stars traced, stating total in plain figures. Add “Above is my solution of ‘Screen Stars’ Puzzle, No. 1.” Sign name and address, and enclose NINEPENCE IIN PENNY STAMPS as entry fee. CLOSING DATE. Solutions must be posted not later than Friday, October 7, addressed to: “SCREEN STARS” PUZZLE, P.O. Box 789, WELLINGTON.
