KING'S SUCCESS ON THE "TWELFTH"

GAME PLENTIFUL ON HAZL.WOOD MOOR Dominion Special Service.

London, August 18. The King, who is probably the finest shot in England, enjoyed grand sport on the Twelfth, His Slajesty and the other guests of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire at Bolton Abbey heading the list of “bags”—eight “guns” securing the splendid total of 531 brace on the Hazlewood Moors. The party comprised, in addition to the King, the Duke of Devonshire, the Marquess of Hartington, Viscount Downe, Lord

Richard Cavendish, Lord Fevershatn, Captain Cobbold, and Sir Charles Cust. A little before 10 a.m. the party left Bolton Hall by motor for Hazlewood Moors. The journey was by way of the wood bridge to the waterfall, where ponies were waiting—Polly and Bonnie Mary, for the King—to convey the party forward to the moors. The dogs and keepers in a motor-wagon, with the luncheon cart, followed Shooting commenced at Brown Bank and extended

over the moors to Roghan, finishing at Asia. The sportsmen were joined for lunch at Rocking Stone Hall by Die Duchess of Devonshire, Lady Ann Cavendish, with Earl Burlington and Lord Andrew. There was a little rain during the day, but visibility was moderately good. Lord Lonsdale’s party, from Lowther Castle, which shot over the Shap h'ell Moors, Westmorland, had the biggest bag ever recorded for Shap Fell—a total of 350 brace, the birds

being in splendid condition. Princess Mary accompanied the “guns.” _ In North and mid-Cumberland the higher moors will not be shot until later in the month. In Northern Lakeland and West Cumberland very few guns were out owing to the backwardness of the birds, which consist mainly of second broods. Although small, they are healthy, are thriving, and will be ready for the guns in a fortnight or three weeks
