SPECTACULAR BLAZE
OLD CHRISTCHURCH BUILDING. DESTROYED.

Christchurch, October 1. A spectacular blaze at Page’s Road last night attraoted a large crowd to the scene, an old eight-roomed, unoccupied building, formerly used as the Mirihana School, was destroyed. It was owned by Mr. Brian Brent, of New Brighton. The building, which was situated well back from the road and surrounded by trees, was about forty years old, and in a condition that made it burn readily. The owner lelt the keys of ■ the place with the next-door in tho afternoon, and the lire was first discovered by them nt 11 P-m. The police arc making inquiries regarding . reports of strangers being seen on the property on several occasions. _ The building was insured for .£750 in tho Liverpool, London, and Globe office.
