NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
CONVOKED BY SPANISH ROYAL DECREE
STEP TOWARDS POPULAR GOVERNMENT (Rec. September 14, 7.5 p.m.) Madrid, September 13.
A Royal decree convoking a National Assembly, now promulgated, is a step towards popular government by less absurd and unsuccessful methods than those hitherto endangering the life of the nation. The Assembly will not share the King’s sovereignty, and will not legislate, but will collaborate with the Government to prepare projects for submission to its sucessor. It will embody representatives of the State, provinces, and municipalities.— Sydney “Sun” Cable.
