FIGURES FOR AUGUST
WELCOME INCREASE IN EXPORTS
London, September 12. The .statistics .of/.British trade for August last, as compared with August, .1926, show that imports increased by £11,036,000, and exports increased bv £9,623,000/ and re-exports increased by £222,000. The principal decreases were: Imports, non-dutiable food and drink, £1,335,000; coal, £7,539,000; oils- and fats, £2,057,000. Chief increases were: Imports, wood and timber, £1,430,000; exports, coal, £3,536,000; iron and steel manufactures,- £2,007,000. (Rec. September 13, 8.20 p.m.) London, September 12. Lead imports were 22,535 tons; exports were 1362 tons. Rugby, September 12. While the . total -volume of British overseas trade during August varied little from that of July, there was a welcome increase in British exports, with an almost corresponding decrease in imports. - The- imports • for August were valued at £90,100,024, being a reduction of £3,262;32S on those of July, and of £11,035,8.30 on the previous August’s. British exports -totalled £59,410,332, ■ being an increase of £3,289,201 oil July’s, and of £9,623,583 on that of August, 1926: In comparing the two Augusts, both-for imports and exports, the effects of the coal strike of 1926 have, of course, to be taken into account. ..
The imports for -the- first - eight months of'this year aggregated £BOO,611,032, -being a reduction of £3,225,066 on the -corresponding period of last year, while--exports were valued at £457,872,574, being an increase of £12,607,777 on the- first eight months of 1926.—Birtish Official Wireless.
