Hornsey Road Nearly Completed.— The Mayor yesterday again visited Hornsey lload, and found that very good work had been done, and that it would be completed in about another week. It will be greatly appreciated in Melrose in giving easier access to that district. The City Council proposes to view the proposed deviation at Wadestown on Friday. Prisoner Escapes.—A prisoner named William Scholes, who was being taken from Wellington to Mount Eden prison, escaped at Puhinui yesterday morning Scholes evidently took advantage of the general confusion after the passengers had transhipped at Karaka Cutting as a result of the slip on the railway line. When the travellers had- boarded the relief train at the Auckland end of the slip there was no accommodation left, and at Puhinui Scholes made a dash for liberty.—Special Service.
