GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY WANTED FEDERATION FORMED BY DAIRY FARMERS Bl" TELEGRAPH.—PRESS association. Palmerston North, July 27. The most important meeting that has yet been held to discuss the pork industry of the Dominion took place at Palliierston North to-day, when far reaching decisions were arrived at. Delegates came from all over the North island, as far north as Whangarei and \Vairo3, and from Waikato, Hawke’s Bay, Rangitikei and Manawatu. .Apolo- x gics were received from the Wairarapa representatives. Consideration was given to the question of Government subsidy to set the industry on a proper footing; to the formation of a scheme similar to the Paterson Scheme operating in Australia, and finally to the formation of. a federation to encourage the production and exportation of pork and bacon by the dairy farmer and to endeavour to stabilise prices. It was decided to wait upon the Government as a deputation in an endeavour to secure a subsidy of £40,000 on pigs exported through cooperative channels that do not realise at least sJd.'per lb., and also that the Paterson Scheme be gone on with. Speakers seyerplv criticised the inaction of the Meat Board in not looking after the pork interests, i nd the meetdecided to form the New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Pi? Federation with the objects of encouraging the production and stabilising prices.
