ULIMAROA BUFFETED
IN GALE ON THE TASMAN The Ulimaroa, which arrived at Wellington late on Tuesday night from Sydpey, was delayed on the passage about fifteen hours owing to exceptionally heavy weather. Although badly buffeteji, the ship again proved her excellent sea-going qualities and came through without damage. The Ulimaroa sailed from Sydney at noon on Friday, and at midday on Saturday she encountered the full fury of a heavy easterly gale. High seas were running, and speed was reduced for twenty-four hours, so that the vessel had just sufficient way. to keep her head to the gale. The weather then improved slightly, and the ship stood on her course again, but conditions continued to be bad until the Ulimaroa entered Cook Strait on Tuesday. She arrived in the stream at 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday. For a few weeks past the Ulimaroa has been laid up in Sydney for an extensive overhaul. Repair work was carried out in the engine room, boiler compartments, and bunkers, and every portion of the vessel was repainted.
