SKATING

■ A very complete programme has been drawn un for the plain and fancy dress skating carnival to bo held in the Drill Hall, Buckle Street, on August 5 and 6. This carnival is claimed to be one of the biggest events of its kind held in Wellington. Prize trophies of a minimum value of two guineas will be offered for the best fancy dress worn by lady and gentleman, most comical dress (lady or gentleman), most original dress (lady or gentleman), best impersonation of any artist on stage or screen, half-mile championship, waltzing competitions, etc. Eetiies for the half-milo championship will dose at the Sydney Street rink on July 50.
