AUCKLAND WINTER SHOW
OUTBREAK OF FIRE QUICKLY ’ SUTI’K ESSED. Dominion Special Service. Auckland, July 27. Fite broke out in Ute Winter Show ou the Central Wharf last night at half past ten, but the Auckland Central Fire Brigade did uot allow it to go very far, and to-day only one of the sheds has been closed to the public. The shed affected is No. 12, the farthest from the main entrance, and it housed several sideshows and a few exhibits, including gramophones and furniture. After the alarm was given by a nightwatchman the brigade was on the scene within three minutes aud very soon had the lire under ■ command. Evidently it had been burning for some little time, as the place was full of smoke, which rather hampered the firemen. The actual amount of damage done was not large, several gramophones of the Monarch gramophone display being burned and some of the exhibits in the stall of the Standardised Furniture Company, of New South Wales, also suffered. No damage was done to the sheds. The sympathy of the Wellington Show’ Association was expressed by its president (Mr. R. 11. Niinmo), who telegraphed to the Auckland Association: “Regret learn jour misadventure. Trust no serious loss j-our association. Best wishes successful show.”
