MANAWATU HUNT POINT-TO-POINT Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, July 27. Some good racing'was seen in the Manawatu Hunt Pouit-to-Point Steeplechase at Te Matai this afternoon, some element of excitement being added by several accidents which occurredl. One proved fatal to the , horse concerned. There were three events, the. results of which are as follow;— Manawatu Hunt Heavy-weight.— Terehu (L. Little), 1; Bismoor (S. Bailey), 2; Ponga (H. Bryce), 3, Won by three lengths, with a head between second and third. Kiwitea Light-weight.—Mode (Mr. W. Wilson), 1; Monowai (Mr. J. J. Waller), 2; Lady Dohvill ,(Mr. D. Thompson), 3. Won by half a length, with third horse twenty yards behind. Newbury Open Point-to-Poiut Steeplechase, two miles and a half.—Maidos (Mr. J. J. Waller), 1; Birkenose (Mr. L. Little), 2; Tarero (Mr. AV. Scott), 3. This race carried a silver cup for the winner, and created considerable interest. The meeting generally was a great success, those present including visitors from Hawke’s Bay, Dauuevirke, Rangitikei, and Manawatu. In the last race Roman owned by Mr. \V. T. Bailey, aud ridden by Mr S. Bailey, fell badly, breaking its,neck. In the Kiwitea Light-weight there was also au accident, Mr. C. J. Toxwood’s Grey Lady badly dislocating' her fetlock. Another mishap also occurred in the last race, when Mr. „C. F. Vallauce’s Makuru broke a tendon very badly, an accident which will put this horse out of action for some time to come. At the end of the meeting the trophies won were presented, and property owners thanked for their courtesy.
