PREVAILING PRICES IN THE CITY Prices in the retail market show no alteration over the week-end. Rice, sago, barley and tapioca arc 3d. lb.; sugar is SJd- lb.; dried apricots are 1/2 lb. New laid lien and duck eggs are 3/- doz., medium size 2/6 doz-, and preserved eggs 2/4 doz. Good table butter is selling at 1/6 Ib., and pure whey butter at 1/4 lb. Cheese prices arc as follow:— Mild cheese lid. and 1/- lb.; matured cheese .1/- to 1/4 lb.; Stilton cheese 3/-lb. Prunes arc 6d. lb. Seedless raisins arc 3 packets for 1/3. Condensed milk is 6d. and 1/- per tin, and herrings in tomato sauce 6Jd. tin. Tinned pineapple may b.e bought for 7Jd. tin. Dates are Bd. packet, and 4d. lb (loose); salmon is selling at from 6d. to 1/8 per tin. Bulk honey is lOd. lb., clover honey is also tod. lb. «- The following meat prices are prevailing in the city:—Tripe 6d. per lb.; mincemeat sd. lb.; corned beef 7d. and Bd. per lb.; beef sausages are 6d. lb., and pork sausages Bd. and lOd. lb.; gravy beef is sd. lb.; sirloin of beef is 9d. Ib., and ribs of beef arc 7(1. lb.; legs of mutton are 9d. and lOd. lb., and mutton chops sell at 9d. lb. Rhubarb is Bd. per bundle, and spinach 3d. per bundle; swedes, marrow and pumpkin are all 3d. lb.; carrots, turnips and parsnips are 3d. per bundle, artichokes are 3d. lb., and leeks 3d. per bundle; onions are 3d. lb., and kumeras 3d. lb-; beetroot is 3d. per bundle; Brussels’ sprouts are 1/- and 1/3 per lb.; celery is 6d. to 1/- per stick; cabbages are Gd. to lOd. each, and cauliflowers 6d. to 1/6,'each. Smoked fish is 1/3 per Ib., round fish is Bd. and Od.Tb., and flat fish 1/- lb.; crayfish are to be bought at from Gd. each upwards; oysters are still Bd. doz. (in shell), and 1/- doz. (opened). Lemons are 2/- and 3/- doz., and oranges from 2/- to 4/- doz.; dessert apples are 4d. and Gd. Ib., and cooking apples 3d. and 4d. lb.; dessert pears are 6d. Cape gooseberries are Bd. lb.; grapes are lOd., 3/- and 3/G Ib.; grape fruit are Gd. and Sd. each; passion fruit are 1/- and 1/6 doz.; tomatoes are selling at 4d. and Gd. lb; (cooking), 1/- Ib. (table), and 1/6 lb. (hot house); tree tomatoes are Bd. lb.; mandarines are from 1/- to 2/- doz. The above quotations apply to cash prices over the counter in the city, and. in most cases, do not include delivery. 1
