TOWN AND COUNTRY. Mrs. E. Lewer, of Wellington, is staying with her mother, Mrs. W. Keeling, of Palmerston North. .Miss M. Harvey, of Waitahora, Dannevirke, is on a visit to Napier. Miss Phyllis Ford, of Auckland, is staying at the Vicarage, Terrace End, Palmerston North. Mrs. R. 11. Baines, of Ormondville, is on a holiday visit to Thames. Mr. and Mrs. W. Glasgow, of Turakina, have been visiting Palmerston North. Mr. and Mrs. K. O’Hallaran, who have been visiting Wellington, have returned to Napier. Mrs. D. Collins, of Wairarapa, is staying with her mother, Mrs. L. A. Abraham, of Palmerston North. Mrs. A. Bayliss, of Kopun, is spending a short holiday in Wellington. ~ Miss Ruth Putnam will return to Palmerston North this week after a lengthy holiday in Australia. Mrs. W. H. Abbey, of Aramoho, Wanganui, is at present in a hospital in Auckland, where; she has undergone an operation. Mri and Mrs. C. V. Birch and Miss M. Fergusson, who have been staying with Mrs. A. B. Russell, of Palmerston North, leave to-day to attend the Hawke’s Bay races. Miss N. Chadwick, of Dannevirke, is staying with Miss D. Rodgers, of Palmerston North. The engagement is announced of Ivy Lilian, second daughter of Mr. J. W. Russell, of Woodville, to Cecil Howard, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ajjderson, of Masterton. An interesting wedding took place at Palmerston Norjh on Fridays the contracting parties being General William Meldrum, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., Stipendiary Maffistrate at Grevmouth, and Miss C. B. Dodson, eldest daughter of Mrs. L. R. Dodson, late of Greymouth. General Meldrum commanded the Mounted Rifles in Palestine, and was a highly popular officer. After the ceremony the General was the recipient of a presentation made by officers and men of the Wellington Mounted Rifles, N. Hastings ladies should on no account fail to attend the great display of Russian and Canadian furs being hold at present in the Grand Hotel by Madame Menere and Co.. Ltd., the noted fur merchants, who recently returned from a visit to Canada and Russia. This remarkable display recently created a sensation in Wellington.—Advt.
