LYTTELTON FERRY SERVICE. The Union Company advise that the Maori, which hns been completing tier annual overhaul and survey at, Dunedin, will resume her running m the ferry service from Lyttelton on Tuesday, June 28. The Wahine will withdraw on her arrival at Lyttelton on the morning of June 28 for her annual overhaul, which is expected to occupy about a fortnight. The Wahine will then resume, and she and the Maori will pick, up their usual running in the ferry service.
NEW TUG SOUTHLAND. A most interesting craft, the Bluff Harbour Board’s new motor tug. Southland, is now on her long maiden voyage to New Zealand, bavins* sailed from Dublin on May 11. For about ?ix months or the year sehis to be used as an excursion steamer, running passengers to anl from Stewart Island. Seating accommodation has been allowed for 285 passengers. At the end of the summer season the vessel is to be /withdrawn from the passenger service and will act as- a tug and pilot boa+ for the Bhiff Harbour Board. In addition, she.will be used for salvage work whenever the occasion larises. On account of the widely varying nature her employment, the tug remiired careful compromise in her design and eouinment. The burners of this unusual craft Are the Dubbn Dockvard Oomnnny, of which Messrs. Vickm-s (Ireland). Ltd,, are the proprietors. On her trials the Southampton averaged slightly less than 12X knot?. Eighty tons of fuel are carried in a dren tank ward of the engine room, whi’e a hold is nrovidod for the cariraye of general cargo. MISCELLANEOUS. The Port JJardy left Picton ou Saturday afternoon for Bluff The Huntingdon will leave Lyttelton to-day for Port Chalmers and Bluff. The Kauri is expected to clear Newcastle early this week with coal for Wellington. The Kairanga, with timber from Port Stephens, is now at Newcastle completing her cargo with timber and coal for Wellington. She will clear the New South Wales port early this week. The Corinna will load :• t. Dunedin today for Wellington. New Plymouth, aud Nelson, and is due here on Thursday. The Kaimai will leave here to- day for Greymouth to load for Wellington, and is due back about Thursday. Tho Waipiata will clear Auckland early this week for Wellington and southern ports. The Katoa will clear Dunedin to-day. via Oamaru and Timaru, for Wellington and Auckland, aud is due hero on w ednesday. With cement from Portland, the Wingatui is due here to-day. Sbe will leaxe tomorrow for Lyttelton, where, in completion of discharge, sbe will load for Wellington and Auckland. The Totara is due here to-morrow from New Plymouth, and will go on to Lytcltton.
