THE CULPRITS SENTENCED. George William Frederick Mason. a porter, aged 21 years, and William Levene, a steward, aged 24 years, were jointly charged with converting 10 their own use a motor-car, valuwl at <£29.>, the property of Spencer Booth, and with stealing a handbag valued at Jl2 1-ls., containing one shilling, the propcity oi Dorothy Maud McConnnc. Chief-Detective Ward stated that the accused took the car from a city parking stand, and drove it to Pctone. and later abandoned it at Wadestown. I>hey had stolen the handbag, and found a shilling in it, so had thrown it away. Mason had several previous convictions for theft, and his parents would have nothing to do with him. Levene had been in the Dominion for only two months. , , , Mason was sentenced tn twelve months reformative detention on the charge of stealing Uie handbag, and convicted and discharged for taking the cnr.
