DOMESTIC SCIENCE BURSARIES
A DIFFICULTY OVERCOME The difficulty over the granting of bursaries in domestic science at Otago University has been adjusted as a result of a conference between the Alinister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) and Professor Strong, who is in charge of the domestic science see-' tion of the University, and who visited Wellington this week to discuss the matter" with the authorities. In past years the bursary of £7O has been made available to all applicants, subject to the appioval of the Education Department. This year there were 39 applicants, but the Department in the students’ own interests was obliged to limit the number to ten, as these students have to spend three years on the course, and thev undertake to spend at least three years in teaching tn e subject. There was a doubt whether so large a number could find teaching opportunities when their course was completed. and for this reason the Department decided to select ten of the number for bursaries. As a result of the conference, however, it has been decided to grant bursaries tc> all the applicants for this year.
