BRITISH SAILORS’ SOCIETY
Great enthusiasm was shown at the concert given by Mr. E. Bev.tn.ou Thursday last at the British Sailors’ Society. Each, item was greeted with applause, the performers having Io respond with numerous encores. The president of 'he entertainment committee was chairman for the evening, and at the elose of the performahcc proponed it hearty vote of thanks to the party. This was carried with acclamation and cheers by the large audience. Supper wus in the hands of Miss M. w 11son and was handed round during the interval by the workers of ihe society. Items were contributed byMesdamcs Metcalf and Rosenthal. Misses Rease and , F. Tilling. Messrs. Quinlan, Wilkie, Brown, Whaler, Wilkie. Asher, Beneon (Port Melbourne), and Wallington Mahaiia). Mrs. Metcalf and Mr. Ashjr were the accompanists for the evening. On Wednesday the usual mid-week social evening waj held, there being a very large number or men from the various ships in port present. Songs, games, and instrumental items were indulged in. Supper was handed round and a very pleasant time spent till 1U.30' p.in.
